Oddball Films and guest curator Antonella Bonfanti present Liquid Lunch. From vintage beer commercials to outrageous oddities, this evening dedicated to the delectable drink is filled to the brim with the Archive's finest films about beer, booze and the morning after shakes. Highlights include: The Three Stooges in Beer Barrel Polecats (1946); excerpts from the hilarious and particularly odd America On The Rocks (1973) narrated by Robert Mitchum; and an indulging parrot from the Universal Newsreel series Stranger Then Fiction (1943). The Glug (1981), a cautionary tale about adolescent alcohol abuse features a finely orchestrated beer heist; and the gut splitting animation Sex, Booze and Those Pills You Use (1982) reminds drinkers that one or two might turn you into casanova, but too much "sauce" might leave you sexually dysfunctional. Plus! A vat full of vintage beer commercials from the 1950s - 1980s including highlights from 1960s Lucky Beer commercials; and a glimpse back to 1940s Italian and German drinking establishments in San Francisco (1940s).

Beer Barrel Polecats (B+W, 1946)
Curly, Larry and Moe really get themselves in trouble in this Three Stooges short. This slapstick classic makes jailbirds out of the brewmaster trio - unable to find a bottle of beer they decide to brew some themselves and mistakenly sell a bottle to an undercover detective.
America on the Rocks (color, 1973) - excerpt
Hilarious but ultimately (alas) sobering documentary on
America’s favorite
pastime- getting loaded. Narrated by Robert Mitchum (a
rather legendary drinker
himself), the film starts off on a merry-go-round filled
with drunks, and then
explores the history, the nightlife and the perils of
Boozelandia.
Sex, Booze and Those Pills You Use (color, 1982)
A particularly unusual, and gut-splitting, animation about alcohol and sexual disfunction reminds the audience that one or two drinks might turn you into casanova, but too much many might leave your lover something to be desired.
The Glug (color, 1981)
Begins with a dramatic beer-heist and drinking games but ends with young Tony's dependency on on alcohol. This quintessential classroom film hits all the right campy notes.
Lucky Beer Commercial Highlights From the 1960s (Color, 1960s)
They don’t make commercials like this anymore. From kooky animated films with figures like Christopher Columbus, the Wright Brothers, Comedian Rich Little in a space suit in a lunar landscape, with a mountain goat (!), jumping out of a airplane, in front of a steamroller to cartoon cavemen with bows and arrows these spots pull out all the stops in their attempts to sell their product.
